There is a quiet, enchantment-filled pace that comes with October. Between the crisp fall air and the golden light, nature seems to put on its own little shows—if we only slow down enough to notice.
During a morning walk with my pup Ambrosius around our local field, I caught sight of a single golden leaf hanging in mid-air, gently spinning and dancing as if suspended on an invisible thread. Another passerby stopped in wonder, asking how it was even possible. My response? “Magic is everywhere—you’ve just got to look for it.” (Though my daughter Aloura correctly pointed out it was likely a fine thread of spider silk, the magic remained all the same!)
We carried that sense of wonder back home for a sweet birthday celebration. Inspired by nature, we baked a cozy Zucchini Cake, swapping out the coconut oil for organic applesauce to keep it light and rich. Topped with a silky berry cream cheese frosting and surrounded by fresh blackberries, it became a whimsical backdrop for one of Aloura’s hand-painted fox rocks—making it look just like a little fox nestled inside a foxglove garden.
To top off a perfect weekend, a walk through a vibrant local dahlia garden reminded me how much beauty autumn holds. From fiery red blooms to candy-cane stripes and cascading fuchsias, it was a gentle reminder that stepping into a new season is all about honoring rest, health, and simple everyday joy.
What little moments of magic have you spotted in your corner of the world this week?
